BVEP Shapes up for Future Events Industry Representation with Updated Terms of Reference

The Business Visits and Events Partnership (BVEP) has confirmed updates to its terms of reference as it prepares to step up its advocacy and representation on behalf of the UK Events Industry.

The new terms, which were agreed at a recent member meeting in NewcastleGateshead, outline the BVEP’s revised vision, mission and objectives.

BVEP has confirmed its coordination of representations across all partner organisations covering meetings; conferences; exhibitions; trade shows; incentive travel; event hospitality; ceremonies; sporting; cultural and festivals as well as other services provided to travellers and attendees to events.

BVEP’s vision is to support sustainable growth for the UK’s events Industry and to do this via advocacy, networking, collaboration and a collective voice.

As the industry’s umbrella body, the partnership seeks greater collaboration across all the diverse sectors of the Events Industry on common issues. It aims to forge closer links with policymakers and maintain its strong relationships with key UK government departments such as the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, the Department for International Trade and the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy.

Stronger links with the creative industries will also be sought together with the encouragement of joint events by partners and an increase in the focus on professionalism and skills development

The partnership has also revised the terms of its membership, opening up full membership to all event industry associations and representative bodies in the UK and to international organisations with divisions or arrangements which represent the interests of their members in the United Kingdom.

Michael Hirst OBE, Chair, BVEP said: “The new terms of reference incorporate a strong vision and mission of support for the industry and is backed up by a set of robust objectives to bring the industry together in a more collaborative way. The partnership is also extending its membership to other collective representative organisations that have an interest in the events sector in the UK and introducing a more formal committee structure. This is to ensure the industry’s voice is louder than ever before as in the future events will play an even bigger role in Britain’s industrial and economic strategy”.
